West Park
Located at 2700 W 116th Street in Carmel, West Park is a fun place for kids to visit. There is a tractor themed play areas for toddlers, with walkways on bridges over ponds for everyone to enjoy. In the winter, you can go sledding on a steep sledding hill. In the summer, kids can enjoy the flash pad. There are plenty of picnic tables and benches to rest or share a meal.
Summit Lake State Park
Summit Lake State Park is located at 5993 N Messick Road in nearby Mooreland. Unlike some of the other parks on this list, this part doesn’t have the recreation opportunities at playgrounds like the other parks have. Instead, it features stunning views of nature, including a beach, fishing opportunities, and an onsite bait shop. Many hikers like to explore the well-maintained trails. On less-crowded days, it is an excellent place for reflection.
Eagle Creek Park
Located at 7840 W 56th Street, Eagle Creek Park is a bird sanctuary where you can learn a lot about local birds. It is one of the largest city parks in the nation. There is an ornithology center onsite where you can learn more about birds and see them up close. It includes nearly 4,000 acres of wooded terrains and meadows, as well as 1,300 acres of beautiful water.
Creekside Nature Park
Creekside Nature Park is located at E Sycamore Street in Zionsville. It is located in a floodplain. You can bring your dogs with you to explore one of the several hiking trails. There are some picnic tables around where you can bring a lunch. Plan to go during off-hours as there is limited parking.
