What Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 Includes

Most TSS 3.0 models have all seven features below. The 4Runner and GR Corolla have Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, but the range down to a full stop comes with the Full-Speed Range version, so ask us how cruise control works on either model. The GR Corolla also has no Proactive Driving Assist.

TSS 3.0 feature What it does Toyota's stated limits
Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection Can alert you to a potential collision with a vehicle, pedestrian, bicycle or motorcyclist, and may brake automatically. Designed to help reduce impact speed and damage in certain frontal collisions.
Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control Helps maintain a preset distance from the vehicle ahead, from highway speeds down to a full stop. Not a substitute for safe and attentive driving.
Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist May alert you if you drift out of your lane unintentionally, and may make minor steering corrections to help keep you in it. Designed to read visible lane markers under certain conditions. It is not a collision-avoidance system.
Lane Tracing Assist Helps you center the vehicle in its lane. Designed to read visible lane markers and detect other vehicles under certain conditions. It works only when Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is engaged.
Road Sign Assist Can recognize certain road signs and show them inside the vehicle. Only recognizes certain road signs.
Automatic High Beams Can switch between high and low beams automatically, based on the vehicle's surroundings. Operate at speeds above 21 mph.
Proactive Driving Assist May provide gentle braking, steering or both to help control your distance from a vehicle, pedestrian or bicyclist ahead. Designed to detect certain objects or curves in the road.

Disclaimer: Toyota Safety Sense™ effectiveness is dependent on many factors including road, weather and vehicle conditions. Drivers are responsible for their own safe driving. Always pay attention to your surroundings and drive safely. See Owner’s Manual for limitations.

Which Toyota Models Have TSS 3.0 Standard

Which version of Toyota Safety Sense you get depends on the model. Each model below comes standard with the suite beside its name.

What the TSS Versions Have in Common

Every current TSS version includes the same six core features:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
  • Lane Tracing Assist
  • Automatic High Beams
  • Road Sign Assist
  • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

Proactive Driving Assist is the exception: only TSS 4.0 and most TSS 3.0 models have it.

Safety Features That Are Not Part of Toyota Safety Sense

Blind Spot Monitor and the five other safety features below sit outside TSS. None of them replaces looking around for yourself.

Feature What it does
Blind Spot Monitor Designed to warn you when a vehicle in the next lane enters your blind spot.
Rear Cross-Traffic Alert Designed to warn you of vehicles approaching from either side when you're in reverse.
Safe Exit Alert Alerts you if opening a door may lead to a collision with a vehicle approaching from the rear.
Parking Assist with Automatic Braking At low speeds, warns you of possible contact with certain objects or vehicles and, in certain conditions, may brake automatically.
Panoramic View Monitor Shows a bird's-eye view on the touchscreen from cameras around the vehicle to help you check for hazards. The view does not cover the full area around the vehicle.
Front Cross-Traffic Alert Designed to detect vehicles approaching from the sides as you move at slow speeds, such as at a busy intersection.

Blind Spot Monitor, Parking Assist and Panoramic View Monitor vary by model and often by grade (trim level). A dash in the table below means ask us about that model.

Higher Grades Add More Safety Features

Some higher grades add Lane Change Assist, Traffic Jam Assist and Front Cross-Traffic Alert, which sit outside TSS. The bZ Limited has all three plus Advanced Park; the bZ XLE can't get any of them. The C-HR XSE has Lane Change Assist and Traffic Jam Assist; the SE can't get them. The Camry offers all three in a package on the XLE and XSE only, and the Crown Signia offers them as options on the Limited only.

Traffic Jam Assist is not an automated driving system and needs your supervision at all times.
