2026 Toyota Sienna

Two questions decide which one you buy, and they come in this order. Everything after them is equipment.

Do you need eight seats? Three builds have them: the LE in either drivetrain, and the front-wheel-drive XLE. If the eighth seat is a requirement, your choice is already down to those three.

Do you want all-wheel drive? It costs $2,000 on the LE, XLE and Limited, and $890 on the XSE. It costs a mile per gallon in town and on the combined rating; on the highway the two are identical at 36.

Hands-free sliding doors start at the XLE. The Woodland Edition is the odd one out. It costs $95 more than a front-wheel-drive Limited and $1,905 less than an all-wheel-drive one. It spends that money on a factory-fitted tow hitch and 6.9 inches of ground clearance rather than on comfort.

The Woodland Edition and Platinum come only with all-wheel drive. If you need eight seats and all-wheel drive, the LE is the one to look at.

The 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine produces 189 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque on regular 87-octane fuel. The front electric motor produces 180 horsepower and 199 lb-ft. Together they make 245 horsepower, which is Toyota's figure for the whole system rather than the two numbers added up.

A continuously variable automatic transmission changes ratios without fixed gear steps. The Sienna uses a nickel-metal-hydride battery and an 18-gallon fuel tank. There is no gas-only 2026 Sienna.

Dual power sliding side doors are standard on the LE. The XLE and every trim above it have hands-free dual power sliding side doors. A kicking motion under the bumper opens them when your hands are full. Every trim also has a power liftgate. A hands-free power liftgate is optional except on the LE and Woodland Edition, where it is unavailable.

The LE has eight seats with either drivetrain. The front-wheel-drive XLE offers seven or eight, while the all-wheel-drive XLE, all-wheel-drive XSE, both Limited models and Platinum have seven.

Seven-seat vans get second-row captain's chairs that slide a long way fore and aft, so you can trade second-row legroom for third-row legroom depending on who is sitting where that day. Eight-seat configurations use a bench with a stowable center seat. LATCH is the standard set of anchors that a child seat clips to. The three eight-seat builds have five LATCH anchor points; all other builds have four.

The third row has 38.7 inches of leg room. A Toyota Highlander's third row has 28.0. That ten-inch gap is the whole argument for buying a van instead of a three-row SUV, and it is the difference between an adult sitting back there and an adult enduring it.

The Sienna is 203.7 to 204.1 inches long, 78.5 inches wide and 68.5 to 69.7 inches high. Its wheelbase is 120.5 inches. Ground clearance is 6.3 inches, or 6.9 inches on the Woodland Edition.

Every trim and drivetrain is rated to tow 3,500 pounds. A hitch receiver and wiring are factory accessories on most trims. The Woodland Edition comes with a tow hitch already fitted.

Every 2026 Sienna has a 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a three-month SiriusXM trial. A 12-speaker JBL Premium Audio system with a subwoofer and an amplifier, rated at 1,200 watts, is available.

The Entertainment Package is the only factory package offered, and it is available on every trim. It includes an 11.6-inch 1080p rear screen, a video input, a remote and two wireless headphones.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard on every trim. The Sienna also carries Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert. Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking is available. The government's overall crash-test rating is five stars.

Winter here is ice more than snow. Central Indiana sits near the rain-and-snow line, so a freezing-rain morning is more common than a foot of powder, and normal snowfall is 25.5 inches a year. All-wheel drive earns its money pulling away from a stop sign or up a glazed on-ramp. It will not help you stop, and no van will, so tires matter more than the drivetrain on a bad morning.

The other half of the year is Grand Park in Westfield, 400-plus acres of youth sports fields. A tournament Saturday is seven people and all their gear at once, which is the day you find out whether 33.5 cubic feet behind the third row was enough.

If you asked us, we would point most families at the front-wheel-drive XLE. It brings hands-free side doors and lets a family choose a seven-seat captain's-chair layout or an eight-seat bench layout while retaining the stronger combined fuel-economy figure.

Choose the front-wheel-drive LE when eight seats and the lowest launch price matter most. Choose the all-wheel-drive LE when eight seats and all-wheel drive are both requirements. The all-wheel-drive XLE is the cheapest way to get hands-free doors and all-wheel drive together. Choose the Woodland Edition when the fitted tow hitch and 6.9-inch clearance directly serve the way your family travels.
