All four versions have the same engine, rear-wheel drive and Torsen limited-slip differential, so choosing one comes down to two decisions. The first is the grade. At launch, the GR86 Premium cost $2,900 more than the base GR86 with the manual and $2,700 more with the automatic. That money buys comfort, lighting and driver-assist equipment, not speed, because Toyota quotes the same acceleration and top speed for both grades. The everyday Premium additions are heated front seats, Blind Spot Detection and rear parking sonar, and none of them can be added to the GR86.
The second decision is the transmission. The manual is quicker, and the automatic gets better fuel economy. Once you have settled both choices, see the 2027 GR86 in our online showroom.
